Woman Sexually Assaulted Under Overpass, Police Say
Chicago police are searching for a man they say sexually assaulted a woman under an overpass on the city’s Near West Side on Saturday morning.
According to authorities, the woman was standing at a Greyhound bus station at approximately 7:45 a.m. when a man on a Divvy bicycle offered her assistance in looking for a shelter.
The man then brought the woman to a homeless encampment located under an overpass of Interstate 290 and sexually assaulted her, police said. The woman suffered serious injuries during the attack and required surgery after the assault, according to authorities.
The assailant was identified as an African-American man, between the ages of 20 and 29, with slim build, short dark hair, and a dark complexion. He had a mustache and a beard, and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black pants, a black baseball hat, gray shoes, and was riding a Divvy bicycle.
The man, whom police say is homeless, often stays under the overpass where the assault took place.
Anyone with information on the suspect is encouraged to call 911.
